Roman road of Capsacosta

If you like walking with “history under your feet”, the Capsacosta Roman road is an essential plan. From Sant Salvador de Bianya to the Capsacosta pass , the road is very easy to travel and in several sections it is preserved in excellent condition.

An old section with great heritage value

According to some scholars, this road has been identified as the Via Annia , a branch of the Via Augusta . The route entered from Figueres. towards the mountain area and, after crossing the Bianya plain, it climbed the Capsacosta and continued towards the Ares pass , to later connect (already in Gaul) with the main road.

A cleaning and consolidation action has allowed the monumental value of this path to be recovered, showing elements that explain the quality of the Roman work from about two thousand years ago , such as:

retaining walls
wheel guard
other constructive elements that demonstrate the extraordinary engineering work

It is an exceptional testament to a key historical period and a perfect route to combine heritage and landscape.
